RATAN TATA SAYS NANO LAUNCH WILL BE ON SCHEDULE

TATA Group Chairman Ratan Tata today said that he is doing everything possible to launch the Rs one lakh Nano car as planned.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi has begun preliminary discussions with the State Government and the Trinamool Congress.

The Governor also held a meeting with Sudip Bandopadhyay, the chairman of the State Assembly's Standing Committee on Commerce and Industry.

Taking to reporters after the meeting, Bandopadhyay said: "The Governor asked me to meet with him. I told him that the alternative land must be given to the farmers, but Tata should not pullout. The company should not take any decision in a hurry. They must understand the plight of the farmers."

According to sources, the state's Industry Minister, Nirupam Sen, accompanied by Panchayat Minister Surya Kanta Mishra met Governor Gandhi to prepare the groundwork for Friday's talks to end the deadlock.

Gandhi held a two-hour-long meeting with State Government ministers and met a Trinamool Congress team separately at his residence.

Earlier, Gandhi sent a letter to Ratan Tata informing him about the initiative taken to resolve the Singur deadlock.

A total investment of Rs 1,500 crore has been envisaged for Tata's ambitious project to roll out the Rs.1 lakh car by October.

The project, however, has been mired into a controversy with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee demanding the return of 400 acres out of a total 1,000 acres land leased out by the State Government

'Robot' touted as one of the biggest films from the subcontinent, is a science-fiction flick starring Rajinikanth and Aishwaya Rai . The film is directed by Shankar. The shooting for the film commences abroad in U.S.A. from the 7th of September. As is the vogue in Tamilnadu now, Tamil-titled movies enjoy the privilege of tax exemption. Therefore the English title 'Robot' has now been changed to 'Eanthiram'.

It was also rumored earlier in Kollywood that the renowned writer Sujatha who passed away in the last February and was also working for 'Robot', had only suggested this apt Tamil title for the flick. 'Eanthiram' is loosely based on Sujatha's novels 'En Iniya Eanthira' and 'Jeano'.

KUMBLE SHOULD QUIT DHONI WILL TAKE TEST CAPTIANCY

Anil Kumble has rendered a yeoman service to the Indian cricket team but it's time for the seasoned leg-spinner to quit and pass the Test captaincy to Mahenra singh Dhoni, feels former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram.

After India coach Gary Kirsten said that Dhoni is ready for Test captaincy, Akram echoed the view and said Kumble should quit at the top of his form, passing over the Test captaincy to Dhoni.

"I respect Anil for what he has achieved. He has done enough for India and I think it's time for him to take a bow at a time when he is still counted as one of the best," Akram told Mobile ESPN.

Though Kirsten said Dhoni's anointment as Test captain should not be rushed, for Kumble was doing a fine job, Akram felt the veteran spinner should not prolong his retirement and call it quits at a time when he is still regarded among the best in the business.

"Dhoni is the man" to replace Kumble, said Akram. Thoroughly impressed by Dhoni's leadership qualities, Akram pointed out India's string of good shows under the star stumper-batsman and also referred to how Dhoni remodelled himself from a hard-hitting batsman to a middle-order mainstay.

Akram in fact went on to say that Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik should take a leaf out of Dhoni's book and learn how to lead from the front.

MRF UNVEILS AERO TYRES

MRF chairman Mr.K.M.Mammen addressing a press conference on Thursday said that we are manufacturing aviation tyre space with the unveiling of aero muscles,a product born out of in house research and perfected over last three years. MRF expected to invest about Rs.125 crore in this project.

The Center for Military Airworthiness certification and the Regional Center for Military Airworthiness had approved the commercial production of 'aero muscles" tyres for onward supply to Hindustan Aeronautics for its Chetak helicopters.

COUNTRY'S FIRST FROZEN EGG BABY BORN IN CHENNAI HOSPITAL

Six months after a city-based hospital announced the successful frozen oocyte (egg) fertilisation in a 29-year-old woman, a team of doctors delivered the country's first baby to be born by this method on Wednesday. The team, headed by obstetrician-gynaecologist Dr Priya Selvaraj, helped deliver a 2.5 kg baby boy. The woman, who had suffered abortions earlier due to chromosomal disorders, was advised egg replacement for a healthy pregnancy. The doctors then used a donor egg that was frozen since July 2007. In January, the egg was thawed, fertilised and the embryos transferred. According to doctors, the woman was hypertensive and had to be wheeled in for surgery in the 36th week of pregnancy as the level of amniotic fluids had come down drastically. "We did not want to take any chances and posted her for an elective caesarean. In most artificial reproductive procedures, we opt for the caesarean section due to various reasons," said Dr Priya. She was assisted by her mother and obstetrician-gynaecologist, Dr Kamala Selvaraj, the first to deliver south India's first test tube baby in August 1990. While the mother is in the post-operative ward, the baby is in the warmer at the nursery. They would both be shifted to the ward on Thursday, where the mother will be allowed to feed the baby.
